About Drop•PS
Drop•PS (“DPS”) is a utility to send text files containing PostScript™
code to any PostScript printer connected to an AppleTalk™ network. To
send a file, folder full of files, or disk full of files, simply drop
it onto the DPS application or an alias to the application. You can
also drop multiple files, folders, or disks at once.
(DPS can also download EPSF-format files.)
DPS does its work independently of any installed printer drivers, so
you don’t need to have the LaserWriter driver installed. DPS is
System-7 compatible, 32-bit clean, and 68040- and PowerPC-compatible,
as well.
When you run DPS for the first time, it will ask you to choose a
printer. Thereafter, items that you drop onto DPS will be downloaded
to that printer. (The name and zone of the currently selected printer
are displayed in the window that DPS opens up when you launch it
without any documents.) You can change the printer by using the
“Preferences...” command from the File menu. DPS remembers your
choice across launches.
In the Preferences dialog, you can determine whether Drop•PS
prepends a PostScript title header (version 2.0), and whether
the settings are stored within the Drop•PS application itself,
or in a separate preferences file. (Storing settings in the
Drop•PS application can be useful if you would like to set
up multiple copies of DPS, with each one set to send to a
different printer.)
Drop•PS is based on DropShell, by Leonard Rosenthol et. al., and
also contains code written for GCC Technologies. Distribution is
with the permission of GCC Technologies.
Drop•PS is free, and may be freely distributed by and for any
non-commercial or non-profit venture. You may not charge for Drop•PS
above and beyond any routine connect-time and downloading charges.
You may not re-distribute Drop•PS as part of a commercial product,
or use it as incentive to purchase a product, without my express
written permission.
Drop•PS is part of a growing family of fine commercial and freeware

Update Notes
------ -----
Version 1.1
- added ability to download EPSF files.
- extended Preferences to support saving within DPS itself,
and to provide for prepending PostScript title information.
- made internal changes which make it easier to use DPS as
a scriptable component.
- fixed deviant behavior that would occur if the selected
printer became unavailable.
